Salt Lake City Tea Party - Pictures

Here are some pictures from the Salt Lake City tea party, at the Wallace F. Bennett Federal Building downtown. It's hard to get a scope of just how many people were there from the pictures, but I would guess there was somewhere between 1000-2000. I imagine all the snow and rain kept even more people from coming.

Congressman Jason Chaffetz, Congressman Rob Bishop, and Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff all spoke, as well as some activists and citizens.

There was a huge range of people there, from the old, to the stroller bound. From white, to Asian, to African American. This wasn't about conservative, liberal, republican or democrat. It was about being an American. It was an awesome experience.

Wow. The neat thing is that with just a little bit of effort you can actually count how many people are at these rallies and know exactly how many showed up... unlike at all the protests against Bush when they had to do aerial shots of seas of people so we only got estimates of how many were there.

Wow. What an unfounded comment. When was the last time 1000+ protests in 700+ cities were held on the same day to protest Bush? The answer is never.

Also, this wasn't about Obama. This was about reckless government spending. Both Bush and Obama are guilty of that.

This strangely looks like a Palin rally. So many uninformed white people. And NC...This is very much about Obama. Don't lie. All these people are just mad that their candidate didn't win. What is funny is that the taxes of a majority of these people won't change. Taxes were actually higher for the wealthy under Reagan. It really doesn't make any sense.

These parties were organized by fox, Gingrich and Armey. You know that. Stop trying to act like this is some sort of grassroots movement. It's a bunch of clueless white people who can easily be manipulated by corporations, lobbyists and politicians. Especially when there is a black guy in office.

Ian, there is no need for you to further illustrate the disconnect between liberals and conservatives. It's already well documented. It in fact has nothing to do with McCain losing, as he was never our candidate. We were never represented in that election. Also, though income taxes may be less for some, that will be more than made up for with cap and trade, national cigarette taxes, etc., etc. There is more than one way to tax.

Also, this was in Utah. Of course there was a majority of white people, it's not the most diverse state. But I did see, and speak to many Hispanics, Asians and African Americans. All races were represented. I imagine they were much more represented in more ethnically diverse areas.

It was organized by Adam Gardiner, a Utah citizen, and spread through the internet.

Wow, you do a great job of illustrating that neo-Marxists really are stuck on stupid. You simply can not grasp the fact that these people are thinking for themselves and because they aren't swallowing the bull $h!t you are gobbling up, they can see and recognize whats happenign. They know what their Government is doing, and its called income redistribution. Only fools like YOU think thats a good thing. But then you are likely one of those getting some of what someone else earned aren't you?

Um no it's mostly all white people. I've been looking at photos and videos for two days. It's all white people. You know that.

I guess I would agree with you if I wanted to home school my kid and live off the grid in Montana. I'm not like that though. I believe certain institutions and agencies need to be funded by the government. Private business is not going build all the schools, roads, fire departments and police departments in the country. Unless you don't want any of that?

Have you been watching fox news at all? They are covering this non-stop and having correspondents go to cities to cover/host these things. This is not grassroots. At all.

You say:

"They know what their Government is doing, and its called income redistribution."

By that logic Reagan was a socialist. Explain yourself. Explain how higher taxes for the rich under Reagan is different than now.

"the schools, roads, fire departments and police departments in the country"

All of the aforementioned are primarily funded on the state, county and city level. Federal funding makes up only a small percentage. Additionally, the tenth amendment does not provided for federal involvement in any of the aforementioned.

That's not what these people are protesting though. You know that. People at these rallies are just mad about paying taxes in general. I don't think they are really differentiating between state and federal taxes. I don't think they really understand what goes where.

Some people just seem incapable of seeing anything but through the prism of D vs R. ITS ALL OF THEM!

Are you still prattling on?

What is the definition of grassroots? Is it spontaneous gathering? If there is any organization whatsoever is it still considered grassroots? What if ACORN or the ACLU plan a protest? Is that considered grassroots? And if a protest hosted by one of those organizations is grassroots, then you would have to concede that these tea parties were almost certainly grassroots will no funding, organization, or leadership beyond regular citizens will the same ideals who found eachother on the internet.

"Have you been watching fox news at all? They are covering this non-stop and having correspondents go to cities to cover/host these things"

Do you watch Fox News? Did you watch Fox news during the election? If the fact that Fox news covered the protests means they support the protests, then Fox news also supported Obama during the election according to your poorly thought out logic. Fox news devoted hundreds of hours to all the candidates including Obama, and the fact that they give air time to current events does not mean they are somehow at the head of some great conspiracy.

Please Ian, explain to me these two points because I'm very interested to see what your libtard brain comes up with.
1. What is the definition of grassroots, and why shouldn't these demonstrations be considered part of your definition?
2. How is news coverage considered acceptance of the message that they are reporting?

You're wrong. If you read what these people were actually protesting against you wouldn't sound so blatantly stupid. You'd be smart to do your homework before you attempt to use lies and mis-information to prove your point.

These people are not protesting "paying taxes in general" as you mistakenly point out. They are protesting against paying taxes to a government that spends their money in ridiculous ways (i.e. un-Stimulus Package). The hardworking people of the United States (who happen to be conservative...go figure), are sick and tired of of politicians and their run-away spending sprees, on the taxpayers watch.

Is there a Tea Party in Salt Lake on Independence Day? If so give us some details like where and when.
