Resistance Building Against Obama's "Lecture" (Brainwashing) to School Kids

PARENTS REVOLT OVER PLANNED OBAMA LECTURE TO STUDENTS...

The president will speak directly to students Tuesday about the need to work hard and stay in school. His address will be shown live on the White House Web site and on C-SPAN at noon EDT, a time when classrooms across the country will be able to tune in.

Schools don't have to show it. But districts across the country have been inundated with phone calls from parents and are struggling to address the controversy that broke out after Education Secretary Arne Duncan sent a letter to principals urging schools to tune in.

Districts in states including Texas, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Virginia and Wisconsin have decided not to show the speech to students. Others are still thinking it over or are letting parents have their kids opt out.

Some conservatives, driven by radio pundits and bloggers, are urging schools and parents to boycott the address. They say Obama is using the opportunity to promote a political agenda and is overstepping the boundaries of federal involvement in schools.

"As far as I am concerned, this is not civics education—it gives the appearance of creating a cult of personality," said Oklahoma Republican state Sen. Steve Russell. "This is something you'd expect to see in North Korea or in Saddam Hussein's Iraq."
Backlash builds...

School districts from Maryland to Texas are fielding angry complaints from parents opposed to President Barack Obama’s back-to-school address Tuesday – forcing districts to find ways to shield students from the speech as conservative opposition to Obama spills into the nation’s classrooms.

The White House says Obama’s address is a sort of pep talk for the nation’s schoolchildren. But conservative commentators have criticized Obama for trying to “indoctrinate” students to his liberal beliefs, and some parents call it an improper mix of politics and education.

North Texas schools won't carry speech...

The following is a list of how various school districts are handling the speech. Districts are listed alphabetically:

Allen ISD: Speech will not be shown to grades kindergarten through third grade but will be used as part of the social studies/government curriculum for grades 4 through 12.
Arlington ISD: Making the speech available for students and parents on its Web site. The speech will also be available for classroom use as deemed appropriate to the district's curriculum.
Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD: District will record the speech, and teachers can choose to use it at a later time.
Dallas ISD: Speech will be live on its cable channel. Principals will decide if they want to air it live.
Denton ISD: Speech will be available on its Web site for anyone to view, but will not be broadcast to students.
Duncanville ISD: Social studies teachers will have the option of broadcasting the speech to their students.
Fort Worth ISD: Speech available live at all of its high schools, but students will not be required to watch it. Students who choose not to view will have alternative activities.
Frisco ISD: District will record the speech, and teachers can choose to use it at a later time.
HEB ISD: Speech will be recorded as a podcast. It will be available to social students teachers who want to use it in class and to everyone on the district's Web site.
Highland Park ISD: Any teacher can choose to broadcast it.
Keller ISD: Speech will be available live. Teachers can show it if they want to.
Lancaster ISD: District will record the speech, and teachers can choose to use it at a later time.
Mansfield ISD: Speech will be recorded, and teachers can use it at a later time.
Plano ISD: Speech will be available on its Web site for anyone to view, but will not be broadcast to students.
Richardson ISD: The speech will be available on Wednesday, the day after, and optional for grades kindergarten through 12. Parents will need to give permission for students in grades kindergarten through 8. No discussions or lessons will be offered afterward.

Districts not listed did not return calls requesting information.

Districts in other states such as Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Virginia, Wisconsin have decided not to show the speech to students. Others are still thinking it over or are letting parents have their kids opt out.
WHITE HOUSE: Furor over speech 'silly season'...

"I think we've reached a little bit of the silly season when the president of the United States can't tell kids in school to study hard and stay in school," presidential spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters. "I think both political parties agree that the dropout rate is something that threatens our long-term economic success."

No, no, "silly season" started when the ignorant jack-a's elected this clown.

Good for the school districts not showing the speech, and to others, not mandating it. I hope you are all calling your schools and school districts, and voicing your opinion.

It’s OK for a Republican president to addressed a national audience of students and toot his horn and push his political agenda but it’s not ok for Obama to tell students to stay in school?

That's called DOUBLE STANDARD

On November 14, 1988, President Reagan addressed and took questions from students from four area middle schools in the Old Executive Office Building. The speech was broadcast live and rebroadcast by C-Span, and Instructional Television Network fed the program “to schools nationwide on three different days.”
In his speech to students and the question and answer session following Reagan

1. stressed the importance of low taxes and free trade.
2. stressed the importance of religion in our nation.
3 touted the economic achievements of his administration ,
4.put in a plug for the line item veto,
5. told the students that lowering taxes increases revenue
6. boasted of his administrations aid to Negro colleges
7. and told students that if guns were banned, burglars would be “celebrating forevermore”

Two years before that Reagan again spoke to the children of America on nationwide TV .
He spends the bulk of his address touting the wonderful accomplishments of his administration in fixing the economy, restoring America's military, bolstering foreign policy. (Gee, isn't it suppose to be about the kids??)

Then he goes on to exhort the students to help make America strong by

1. studying hard (good)
2. being good citizens (wonderful)
3. staying away from drugs. (excellent)
4. and lowering the tax rates (Huh???)

Why he just couldn't help himself slip his political agenda in there again.

The difference is that what Reagan said is true and is responsible for the greatest economy the world has ever seen, and what Obamoron is preaching is a last ditch effort at indoctrination of the next wave of people the liberals HOPE will either be too stupid to understand or so dependant on their ridiculous agenda of "the government can save you" that they will continue to vote these communist scumabgs into office.

I was going to go with: "Because Obama is a dirty Commie, and Reagan was a hero." But your answer works too I suppose.

I think it's great that students get to hear the president and that we make it be important that they do. He is our leader, whether we agree or not with all his agendas. But good gosh, what's wrong with him telling them to stay in school? Don't we all want kids to stay in school and continue on to higher education so they can make a better life for themselves and their future families? What is this world coming to when we can't let our kids hear the same message from the President of the United States we give them everyday?
