Freedom of Speech Only Good for the Left

For the past decade, the left has been trying to silence the conservative voice, calling for a fair and balanced voice when the majority of the media is clearly slanted to the left. The recent events surrounding Carrie Prejean the former “Miss California,” demonstrates how far the left will go in destroying your reputation and your career if you voice the “wrong” opinion. After weeks of attacks they succeeded in getting her fired.

For those who are not familiar with the story, Carrie was asked a question during the pageant regarding her views about legalizing gay marriage. Instead of giving the politically correct answer, she responded from her heart.

"I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what? I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised”

By the next day, not only the judge who asked the question, but numerous groups attacked her resorting to calling her derogatory names and labeling her “Biblically Correct.” Even worse, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the National Organization of Women (NOW), the bastions of free speech and women rights, fell silent. Apparently, freedom of speech and women’s rights only apply to those who align their views with those of the organization.

The last time I checked the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

There is no part “B” which that states this only applies to those who hold a certain view. If that were the fact we would not be living the United States, we would be living in Communist China. Furthermore, it states that we have the right to embrace any religion we choose. The labeling of people who hold these doctrines as “Biblically Correct” is wrong. Everyone has the right to express their opinion and hold whatever religious view they choose. The founding fathers felt so strongly about this right they made it the first one they addressed.

Those who fear others right to voice an opinion opposite of their own and want to silent them - demonstrates one thing; they already realize that their argument is false.

Carrie Prejean is an attractive and smart young woman. The attacks against her were uncalled for and demonstrated how far the left will go to silence the opposing view. In addition, she showed great strength and conviction by not giving the politically correct answer to an inappropriate question. Her strength will serve her well and I have no doubt she will emerge from this situation better off.
